Obituary of Madeline M. Simmons

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Madeline Sullivan Simmons, 90, of Saratoga Springs, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, following a very short but courageous battle with Congestive Heart Failure. Madeline was born in 1932 and lived her formative years in her beloved Adirondack Mountain home of Minerva, graduating from Minerva Central Schools. After graduation, she attended Albany Business College and worked as a secretary. She married Robert Kellogg and together they moved to First Street. She then raised her family in Watervliet. She was the proud mother of Timothy Kellogg of Minerva, and his three children, Chelsea (Richard) DeLoach, Christopher Kellogg and Julie (Jeremy) Carlson, Mary (David) Mosher of Saratoga, and their three children, Reenie (David) Frydman, Kevin Mosher and Erin Mosher, and Katy (John) Morabito of Paoli, PA and their three children, John (Katrina) Morabito, Lauren (Alex) Kirkner, and Michael Morabito. Mom loved her years on First Street in Watervliet, sending her children to St. Brigid’s and raising her family with all of the families in the neighborhood. She belonged to the Altar Rosary Society and joined all of the moms in a Parish Volleyball League. Madeline taught guitar lessons during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s to an ever-growing group of musicians that passed through her dining room. She was a member of the Home Bureau and a Girl Scout leader, as well. Madeline was active in campaigning for various elections throughout the years. In 1976, mom married John Simmons (Poppy) and they enjoyed a beautiful marriage of 40 years. In retirement, she became Mum-Z the clown and brought her outstanding sense of humor and boundless energy to numerous birthday parties for many years. Gram and Poppy relocated to Ocala, Florida, and she returned to Saratoga upon his passing. Mom enjoyed her time with her friends, and they brought much joy to her life. She loved her social activities and shared her stories with many friends. Her very favorite people in life besides her children, were her sisters and brother. She was predeceased by her sisters Betty Naatz, Laurie Brewer, and her brother, Patrick Sullivan. She remained so very close to her sister Rose Mary (Rosie) Eichler and Maureen (Reenie) Wingert, right up until her last moments. Mom was also survived by her first husband and friend, Robert Kellogg. She also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren, Isaih, Isabella and Sullivan DeLoach, and Evelette and Adam Carlson, as well as many very wonderful nieces and nephews, who brought her great joy and happiness. Cremation took place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend Madeline’s Funeral Mass, which will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, November 18th at The Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866, followed by a celebration of her life at the Inn at Saratoga.
