What a beautiful obituary. As our family is presently spread out in Europe and Africa, we did not learn before now that Inger Giæver has passed away. Ivar Giæver and Inger Skramstad were my mother's closest childhood friends when they grew up together in Skreia. Their friendship, which in adulthood also included my father lasted till my parents passed away about a decade ago. They stayed in touch through numerous cross-Atlantic visits from both sides throughout the years. Personally, I have spent a lot of time both visiting and living in America, but my very first night in the US more than 40 years ago was spent in the Giævers' guest room in Schenectady enjoying their hospitality. Inger and Ivar's lifelong love story is beautiful and quite unique and serves as an inspiration to us all. To the Giaever Family - I was deeply saddened to hear of Inger's passing. I have very fond memories of spending many Summer recess days at the Giaever household, a fun neighborhood gathering place to be !!! Your Mom would make sure we all had a cool drink, a snack and lunch during a hard day at play ! One of my fondest memories was when she offered to load up the Giaever family station wagon with all us neighborhood kids and transport us to and from the Saratoga Performing Arts Center to see the Band Chicago ! For me, it was the first time I had been there to see a concert. I will never forget what a great evening it was ! She truly was a kind and special person. My heart goes out to the Giaever family. Inger was beautiful, smart, strong and energetic. She had style and class in a calm, casual way. Her home was comfy and appealing, matched by her hospitality. I had many good times playing there with Anne, wishing my house could have flowers. (My mother was allergic to most flowers.) Inger would tell us to go play outside, in the fresh air and be active. She would sometimes offer goat cheese and flat bread after school, and later, when I was an adult, coffee and cookies. I’m so glad she had a long and full life, and that she had her family close by at the end. Love and peace to you all. Love, Terri Roben

Inger was an amazing woman, and often seemed like my second mother when I was a little kid. I went to the house early every morning and often stayed far too late! She was the center of her family, and caring and generous to so many others, as well. My sincere condolences to Ivar and your whole family. She will be greatly missed.
