Obituary of Brett James Vertefeuille

WATERFORD – Brett James Vertefeuille, 64, of Waterford, passed away after a brief battle with cancer, on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Stratton V.A. Medical Center in Albany, N.Y. Born in Troy and raised in Waterford, Brett was the seventh of twelve children of the late Edward and Helen (Bryk) Vertefeuille. He attended Waterford Halfmoon Schools. Brett was self-employed in the construction industry. His work enabled him to travel to numerous states throughout the country, while giving him the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of many of our country’s National Parks. Even when not officially working, he was kept busy by the numerous requests of family and friends for home renovation projects. He proudly served in the Navy as a Machinist Mate aboard the U.S.S. Alamogordo was stationed in Charleston, S.C. from 1977 to 1979. Brett was a member of the American Legion Post 476 in Cohoes. Survivors include his daughter, Sarah Sanford (Heather) of Dryden, N.Y.; siblings: Kent Vertefeuille (Denise) of Altamont, Gail D’Errico (the late Tommaro) of Saratoga Springs, Connie Petracca (Paul) of Sanford, Fla., Edward Vertefeuille of Altamont, Lori Vertefeuille of Waterford, Denise LaCoppola (Peter) of Clifton Park, Karen Wilcox (Thomas) of Cohoes and John Vertefeuille (Christina) of Waterford; grandchildren: Katerina, CJ, Arabella, Ralph and Brentley Sanford; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins as well as his best friend, Jimmy Robitaille, also survive. Brett was predeceased by his sister, Tina Forgett (Daniel) and brothers: Joseph and William Vertefeuille. The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff at the Albany Stratton V.A. Medical Center for their heartfelt support and assistance in caring for their brother, Brett. A brief service with Military Honors, followed by inurnment will be held Friday (Sept. 23) at 1 p.m. in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Those wishing to take part in the procession to the cemetery should arrive by 11:30 a.m. at Simple Choices, Inc. 218 2nd Avenue in Troy to join the cortege. The cortege will depart Simple Choices, Inc. for Saratoga National Cemetery by 12 noon.
