Obituary of Ned B. Norton

ALBANY- Ned B. Norton, 87, of Albany, entered into rest on June 26, 2022. The son of Owen Norton and Rosalind (Funk) Norton, Ned was born on August 20, 1934, in Hudson, New York. He lived his childhood in Germantown, where he played along the river, a little boy fishing and romping and adventuring as little boys do. He resided in Albany for most of his life. Ned was a graduate of Cathedral Academy class of 1953. A Korean War veteran, he enlisted and served proudly in the US Marine Corps (Semper fi), and received an honorable discharge for his service in 1961. Ned worked for Montgomery Ward, Leaseway Transportation, the Schaefer Brewing Company, and Stroh Brewing Company. An avid runner, Ned belonged to The Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club (HMRRC). He ran in many local races as well as the NYC Marathon. He especially enjoyed running in the Troy Turkey Trot and the AJCC Bagel Run. Survivors include his wife, Shirley (Sano) Norton, with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage, his three children, Edward Norton, John Norton and Lisa Norton, and three grandchildren, Sophie Norton, Madeline Norton and Gabrielle Norton. Besides his parents, Ned was predeceased by his brothers, Owen Norton and Michael Norton. Cremation took place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 7th at 11am at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church on Capitol Hill, 10 Lodge St, Albany, NY 12207. Burial will be private.
