Obituary of Marie E. Gaynor

DELMAR, NY - Marie E. Gaynor (nee McColgan) died on June 24, 2022. Marie was born on May 22, 1928, in Jackson Heights, Queens, to Philip and Catherine McColgan. She graduated from Newtown High School in 1947 and went on to work as a secretary in Manhattan until marrying Joseph P. Gaynor in 1951. Marie and Joe raised their four children in Elmhurst, Queens; when the children were older Marie worked as a secretary/administrative asst in Elmhurst until retiring. In 1996 Marie and Joe moved to their retirement house in Milford, Pa, where they enjoyed small town living. After living in Milford for 23 years, Marie moved to Delmar Place in Delmar NY. During her lifetime, Marie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church in Woodside, NY. She spent time in the Rosary Altar Society, where she volunteered for various projects. In Milford she was a parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church and served as an office volunteer. Marie loved dogs and had a number of canine companions over the years. She also loved the beach and spent many summer days taking the kids to Rockaway. She enjoyed spending time talking to her many friends over cocktails, sharing her sharp sense of humor. Predeceased by Joseph P. Gaynor, her husband of 67 years, her dear son Michael and grandson Joshua, Marie is survived by daughters Patricia, MaryJoan and Suzanne, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Donations in her memory may be made to the animal rescue organization of your choice. Cremation took place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM on Wednesday, July 20th at St Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Place, Delmar NY 12054.
