Obituary of Kathryn Lois (Woelfersheim) Welch

SCHAGHTICOKE – Kathryn Lois (Woelfersheim) Welch, 88, of Schaghticoke, entered into rest on June 17, 2022. The daughter of the late Frederick A. and Ruth D. (Tremper) Woelfersheim, Kathryn was born on April 29, 1934, in Kingston, New York. At a young age, Kathryn and her family moved from Kingston to Troy, Speigletown and finally settling in Schaghticoke where she remained a lifelong resident. Kathryn was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, class of 1952. For many years she was employed by King Fuels in Troy, Bassett Pontiac in Valley Falls, and lastly Allen Farm Equipment in Schaghticoke where she worked for the last 15 years until retirement. Mrs. Welch was a faithful Christian who taught Sunday School and was a member of the United Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary (Post #731 in Schaghticoke). Kathryn was gifted in needle point crafts. She shared her talents with her family for each major life cycle (marriages and births). Survivors include her husband of 70 years, James Sears Welch, whom she married on May 5, 1952, in Troy. Her children: Robert D. (Lynn) Welch, Janice M. Vantrease, James E. (Cynthia) Welch, Paul W. (Doreen) Welch, Joseph A. (Nadine) Welch and John A. (Sue) Welch. Kathryn is also survived by one sibling, Janice Vincent, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Besides her parents, Kathryn was predeceased by many of her siblings, as well as one son-in-law, Charles “Chuck” Vantrease. Cremation took place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc. The family will hold a private service at a later date.
