I literally do not remember a day that I didn't know Denis Jones. We were neighbors when my parents gave birth to me almost 74 years ago and we remained good friends until the day he made his exit from this world. I never knew anyone so talented, creative, intelligent and selfless and yet he was a humble man who would have done the world for his friend.
We attended our first neighborhood school together and I remember the day I learned that he would no longer be attending Miss Levy's School I was devasted because my best friend would no longer be there with me. This was the first real tragic event in my childhood memory and I was inconsolable but with no alternative other than to walk to school by myself, without my friend.
We spent a lot of time dreaming dreams of a better time, about how much better life would be with a swimming pool that stretched across both our homes, we played games that captured our imagination because that was all we had at that time and we used it to the fullest. Denis taught me my first lessons in organization as with our neighborhood Rousseau Club, sending letters to companies requesting permission to visit their establishment, to be in studio for radio shows and making trips to the city library on a Saturday afternoon of fun and mischief. And when we got older he still had more up his sleaves getting us involved in Jamaica's first Independence celebration. Oh yes, Denis was a master planner who was not just a brilliant student but a social genius as well, who was all about enjoying life to the fullest.
There is so much more I could say as our lives were filled with joy and happiness and when our families expanded our interest grew as we added to our numbers. To this day I cherish the memory of my dear friend and brother and over the years as I met new neighbors the Jones family was always my benchmark for the type of neighbor with whom I wished to indulge.
I miss you my friend but I know your desire was for a better place. You had much more influence on my life that you would have ever thought possible. Rest In Peace my brother and thanks for being my friend!

Denis Jones was my good friend for life. He was an amazing human being. So creative, so innovative, so humble, so kind and understanding. He was the perfect physician who had his patient's interest at heart. He would always go the extra mile to reassure them and would follow up at times with them at home.
I knew Denis from birth over 70 years. WE grew up together, played together, danced together, went to parties together, slept together as kids and spent our summers holidays together at my grandmother's home in Jamaica. He was full of dreams and ideas as a teenager and created opportunities for a group of us friends to visit several factories to expand our knowledge and learning. A dynamic person who wanted the best for himself and his friends. He encouraged us to study and work hard at school. Denis was one of a kind. He loved his family dearly, but his mother (,Aunt Mazie to me ) was a special person.
We promised each other that we would grow old together, but life was too much for him with the death of his beautiful wife Ethel, and then his only sister Rosie. He spoke constantly about his beloved children Tammy and Xavier.
Denis I will always miss you and remember all the fun times we had growing up, in Jamaica, at University, in England and in the US. We have shared the good times and the sad times. The Summers family remember you as our wonderful "cousin"
Rest in peace my dear friend and You will remain in my heart forever. Gone but not forgotten.
From your dearest friend

I have known Denis (DJ) for the last 62 years and it was not too long after, that my wife Patsy had the privilege of meeting him.
Denis, with his perpetual smile, always brightened up the room and contributed conversation in a jolly and meaningful way.
DJ was always a close friend and confidant giving encouragement when needed.
We started at high school, Wolmer’s Boys School , Kingston Jamaica where he was getting “A’s” all the way.
Then, to Medical School, University College of the West Indies, where he performed equally well.
From there to London England for our Post Graduate studies.
He chose a course in Radiotherapy being always the individual who wanted to be in the frontline in the fight against Cancer.
In London, being Family men, we stuck together and Denis was always the explorer.
So, almost every weekend we would be off to somewhere by bus, rented car or subway.
At the close of his successfully completed studies in London he chose to go to the United States with his young Family while I headed home.
But, we were frequently in touch.
Denis returned to Jamaica many times to rekindle our friendship and to inject a necessary dose of laughter and news.
Melvin
From the day I met DJ, I knew we had a genuine friend.
We became extremely close in England, especially when Ethel and I were pregnant at the same time.
We had the best times together playing Scrabble, Monopoly and drinking wine.
I know that the loss of his beloved Ethel took its toll on him.
He kept his love for Tammy and Xavier strong and unswerving to the end.
My DJ is at rest with the love of his life.
He will never be forgotten.

Dear family of this amazing man. My heart aches that he had to leave you. Denis had a caring heart and did so much good for others. We had such good times with he and Sharon. When I think of him, I smile and that is a gift to leave for us. God bless you all. Love on and continue to make him proud
Prayers for comfort and peace.
