Obituary of Brother Joshua Abate

(Brother Joshua Paul Abate, FSD) GLENVILLE- Paul E. Abate, 67, of Glenville, formerly of Catskill, entered Eternal Life on December 4, 2021. Born in Brooklyn on March 23, 1954, to the late Paul E. and Angeline (Lauro) Abate. Paul and his family moved to Catskill in 1963, where he attended St. Patrick’s Grammar and High Schools. Paul went onto earn a bachelor’s degree from LeMoyne College and returned home to Catskill and taught at St. Patrick’s High School. Paul was an early activist in the local environmental movement. He loved his dogs. Survivors include his brother, Patrick Abate of Connecticut. Brother Joshua was of The Congregation of the Third Order of Franciscans of San Domiano. He is mourned by his Brothers, the communicants and Pastor Fr. Alla Issa at St Ann Maronite Catholic Church, Watervliet, where he served as organist. Paul also served as organist at St. Anthony’s Church in Schenectady and St. Mary’s Church in Clinton Heights (East Greenbush). Paul also leaves behind the staff and residents at Holiday at the Atrium Senior Living where he was a beloved friend who provided much comfort and assistance. His Friends and family are most appreciative to the doctors and nurses for his exceptional care at Ellis Hospital, especially on C-6 and E-1 ICU. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to Brother Joshua Paul Abate on Thursday December 9th at St. John the Evangelist Church, 806 Union St, Schenectady, NY 12308. Calling hours will be held from 9:30 am until 11 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Interment will take place privately in Catskill. Arrangements are by Simple Choices, Inc.
