I was privileged to be a small part of the Tuesday morning UU Philosophical group, of which Rodger was also a part. Rodger's thoughtful and expansive way at looking at any number of rational subjects always involved a concern for the values created in whatever position he took - and was concerned that the rest of us do the same. A treasured memory is a time in which I found myself criticizing a position he had taken on a subject that now I don't even remember. A day later he reached out and invited me to a personal zoom chat with just himself. We did just that and it was a warm and generous exercise of simply getting to know each other better. No argument - no mention of the disagreement - just a getting to know more about the other and creating an appreciation of the joys and struggles of the generation we both shared. At the end of the hour I was left with the feeling that I had been in the company of an extraordinary man - and was honored that he'd shared so much of himself with me. Roger Allen

Had Rodger as a professor at Siena College in early 1970’s, then hooked up with him in 1983 as an Information representative at NYS Teachers. We worked together for over 10 years. Rodger was smart, erudite, had a great sense of humor, and loved to have a spirited discussion about a wide-range of topics.
Considered him a friend, and am so sorry to hear he has passed. I know he was in a tremendous amount of pain in his later years, but he never let that interfere with his absolute engagement with life.
Rest easy Rodger.

Rodger & I sang in the Albany Uniterian choir, where I got to know him, not nearly enough!
We never got together, at Starbucks or wherever, to discuss music, poetry, politics
My loss!
His wicked wit & indomitable spirit were more than a match for his physical limitations.
Hail to thee, Blythe spirit!
You will be missed!

I first met Rodger through his partner, Laura Paris, an English Country dance friend. At that time, Laura and Rodger were just getting to know each other. I think they met through their association with the Unitarian Universalist Church.
Rodger and I often got together at Starbucks in Stuyvesant Plaza, and I credit him with bringing me around to the idea that having a costly coffee with a friend on a regular basis was a worthwhile expense, not an extravagance. He had expansive interests, including music and film, but it was our mutual interest in politics, technology, philosophy and current events that drove our discussions. We shared many common values, including a concern for the environment, the education of youth and the state of democracy, and our conversations were lively with Rodger often proposing contrarian views to mine, just for the sake of friendly argument.
I fondly remember our good times together not only at Starbucks but in Laura and Rodger's garden and recently on Zoom. My wife, Diane, and I will miss him very much.

Our condolences go out to Laura and the rest of Rogers family. I enjoyed getting to know Roger over the last 19 years and having conversations about many different topics. I know that he will be carrying in many good debates with everyone he meets.
