Obituary of Clyde Allan Johnson

CLIFTON PARK- Clyde Allan Johnson “Al” Al Johnson, age 67, passed away unexpectedly on September 1, 2021 due to COVID. Despite vaccination, Al unknowingly contracted COVID, causing hypoxia, leading to multiple heart attacks from which he could not recover. Al was born in Canton, OH on March 4, 1954. Al was pre-deceased by his biological father, Clyde Johnson, his beloved mother, Loretta Zalar and step-father since the age of 12, Louis Zalar. He is survived by his four siblings, sister Marla (Bob) Jeffery, brother Eric (Kelly) Johnson, brother Dominic (Holly) Zalar and sister Vickie Ronda, including many nieces and nephews. Al was a 1974 graduate of Saratoga Springs High School. Al had an intellectual disability and shortly after graduation, was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. Unfortunately, in the late 70s, mental illness was not fully understood and community services were limited. Al was fortunate to find the services offered through Living Resources, was given the opportunity to work and made many special connections with friends, housemates and staff. A heartfelt thank you to all of the staff and residents of Bonneau Road Residence for your compassion and support recently and over the years. Al loved spending time with family, enjoyed watching movies, listening to rock music and eating out at various restaurants. He was a connoisseur of fish fries and peanut butter chocolate milk shakes and could tell you the best places in town to acquire these. Despite his challenges in life, Al always maintained a positive attitude and was always very grateful for the simple things in life. His perspective was one which serves as a reminder to all of us, including those who loved him, to take life one day at a time, appreciate those who love and support you and live life to our fullest potential, despite disability or hardship. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Al’s name to: Living Resources 300 Washington Ave Extension Albany, NY 12203 Arrangements are under the direction of Simple Choices, Inc.
