Obituary of Anne Susan (Clas) Bohenek

ALBANY Anne Susan (Clas) Bohenek passed away July 7, 2021, at home after a short battle with cancer. Born September 30, 1951, Anne was the eldest of four children to Thomas Robert and Anne Carol (Grant) Clas. Anne graduated from Mercy High School in 1969. After graduating, she married and had a daughter, Jenny. Soon after, she started her nearly 50-year career with the New York State Department of Health, where she had a reputation as an extreme workaholic. It’s been said the entire agency would fall to ruin if Anne didn’t go into work on her day off. Anne started in the department’s labs, but spent the bulk of her career with the Office of Professional Medical Conduct as an administrator and data analyst providing information to help protect New York’s patient population. She brought light to everyone in the office, always providing a personal touch, note or thought and a never-ending supply of candy. Anne retired in 2007 — only to go back to work the next day, continuing to fill candy bowls until her passing. She married a second time, and later found love again with her long-time companion, John. Sue — as she’s called by her family — was known for her generosity. Like her parents, she never denied anyone who needed help that she could provide. She was famous for her colorful lunch companions and believed that “No one should ever have to eat alone.” An avid collector, Sue appreciated art and hats. Her father cultivated her love of horse racing and Saratoga from an early age, and like him, she enjoyed a good poker game and a dry Manhattan. But, most of all, she cherished family gatherings. Sue had a notorious laugh and could light up a room with her humor. There is an unbearable void now with the silencing of her great laugh. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother Thomas Clas, her partner John Calandra, and former husbands Douglas Pritchard and Richard Bohenek. She is survived by her sister Carol Clas (Elizabeth Donati) of Albany; brother Peter Clas (Ellen) of Waterford, CT; daughter Jennifer Pritchard Munyan (Brian) of Averill Park, and granddaughters Katherine and Delaney. We thank Community Hospice for their kindness and care. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., July 16, at Albany Rural Cemetery, 3 Cemetery Ave., Albany, NY 12204 (please arrive at main gate by 12:45 p.m.), followed by a celebration of life. Memorials may be given to the Capital City Rescue Mission (give.capitalcityrescuemission.org/give) and Community Hospice (givetocommunityhospice.org/donate).
