To Susan and Family: Over 16 years ago I became acquainted with Ted over the subject of his genealogy research and Y-DNA testing at FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA). In the succeeding years and as his ailments piled up and began limiting his participation, I came to manage and become the beneficiary of his FTDNA account and the DNA information it contains. I last spoke to him in August of 2020 at which point he told me he could no longer participate in our genealogy research. A very sad day for me. Our work together was a part of a wider research project I have been leading into the origins of the Wright Brothers, Wilbur and Orville. We were trying to verify the genealogy research of the Brother's father, Rev. Milton Wright, using modern technology and Y-DNA testing data. What we found instead was that the Y-DNA testing shows that Milton Wright made an error in his genealogy work that was quite understandable for the years in which he worked (1895-1915). Our final paper is still pending, and I expect that its conclusions will be hotly disputed for years. I know Ted would have wanted to be aware of the controversy and engaged in the debate. Ted left so many different kinds of legacies that I scarcely believe there is anyone who knows the true breadth and scope of contributions he made during his lifetime toward better understandings of our human condition. As a teacher, mentor, researcher, and seeker of truth in all things, there is no one I know who surpasses him. I will miss him greatly for many years to come, and I can only imagine the loss you must feel at his passing. I wish for you, peace and hope for a better future to all who knew and have survived him. I can assure you that a little bit of Ted's legacy will live on through me and the work we began together so many years ago. Mike Wright, FTDNA Wright Surname Project Administrator, Bryan, Texas

My mother, Betty Dryden, was pre-school and after-school care giver to Henry, Catherine and Margaret when they lived on Vandenburgh Lane in Latham. She loved the children and admired Ted and Sue. My condolences to Sue and the children.

Dear Susan and family,
I have known Ted for many years through the South Asian Muslim Studies Association. He was a treasured mentor throughout my career in political science, and I equally value the way he lived his life. I deeply admire the way he participated in scholarly debates and came to conferences even when his health made it difficult. He enthusiastically engaged with colleagues, from students to senior scholars from all over the world, without the hierarchy so common in academia. And he kept traveling the world, learning, and climbing mountains! Ted was an amazing person, who will always continue to inspire me in my research and engagement with the world, its cultures, and its beauty. I hope to live a life like his. You must miss him terribly. My thoughts are with you.

Dear Susan, I was saddened to see Ted's obituary. I knew him well and we frequently chatted each semester even though I was in administration and he, of course, a rather highly regarded Professor. But, as you know, he was very "modest" despite the extensive research he undertook and his notable international experiences. The thousands of students, undergrad and grad, who took his courses will surely remember him well.
Even after he retired, he came and participated in programs we sponsored with speakers on various topics, often adding comments that were engaging. On behalf of the SUNY-Albany Emeritus Center, and our several hundred emeriti members, I send our condolences to you, Henry, Margaret and Catherine, and your grandchildren.

My condolences to your family. After seeing the obituary it reminded me of my college days 35 years ago when I was lucky enough to take courses taught by Prof Wright. He was so generous with his time and sharing of his knowledge and interests.

If any family members see this, please email me at dalepmay@live.com. I inherited, from a family member's estate, a US Naval officer's sword that is engraved with "Theodore P. Wright Jr." and "1970". It has no connection to my family, so I would like to return it to the rightful family if possible.

My deepest condolences for the loss to your family of this truly amazing man.
Ted was the first scholar outside my university to give me the time of day when I was in graduate school. He earnestly asked and listened about my interests, treating me like an equal despite his senior status.
Ted was instrumental in maintaining the South Asian Muslim Studies Association over long years when there was a drought of interest, relentlessly organizing panels at conferences each year. His energy and commitment were unmatchable, and he helped shepherd SAMSA to a revitalization with a greatly expanded membership. Ted continued to participate in conferences well into his 80s, a fixture at presentations writing notes about what he heard, and sharing his views.
He will be greatly missed and long remembered.

My condolences to the family and friends of Prof Wright. I met him almost annually at Madison South Asia Conference. He was always very kind to us (graduate students, junior faculty) and always came to our papers. He represents a unique history of United States' study of the India and Pakistan.
