Obituary of David A. Glass, Jr.
DAVID GLASS JR. 1953-2020
David was funny, kind, smart and most of all Creative: Inspired by life. Everything was art to him. Even the tree outside his hospital room window. I watched him stare at it while he was in the hospital. I asked him what he was looking at. He said “the tree out there, that’s art to me, everything is art to me”. He never drew that tree but he stared at it enough to capture every detail so he could if he wanted to. David loved his late Mother, Doris Marie (Harris) Glass. He is survived by his father David Glass Sr. and siblings, Doran (Delores), Darrell, Dorene (Tom), Donna (Tom), Diane (Tom) we all knew it. He loved his children, Franklin (Stephanie), Tywan, Dequan (Bianca), Nyasia (Glass) DuBois. He is pre-deceased by his daughter, Zanna Glass. He loved his 12 grandchildren: A’kiya Glass, Aaliyah Glass, Franklin Glass, Amaz’jee Glass, Amaz’janay Glass, Navion Glass, Antonio Glass, Emoni Lacy, Dequan Beverly Jr., Uniyon Beverly, Usiyah Beverly and Unarri Beverly; great-grandchild Lamariyana Conley and god-daughter Lizzie Redmon. He is also survived by many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins and close friends. He thought he had more time for them.
He wasn’t demanding of us, but he did depend on us for support, love and care. He loved Diane and Tommy T’s cooking, vanilla ice cream, popsicles, good music, a great sound system, in the past, good liquor and walking EVERYWHERE.
The last years of his life showed us who he really was. We thought we knew him well from all of his outrageous adventures but its how you finish that really counts. David finished his life by willingly taking care of his elderly father for several years. Dad said “David looked out for me, protected me, he took good care of me, he did his best”. For this we are all grateful. It was an act of unselfish love. That is a side of David that those closest to him saw.
David didn’t give up. He tried to survive for those who loved him and maintained his dignity to the end. He lost his battle with pancreatic cancer but not without a hard fight.
He wasn’t done living but his body just couldn’t fight anymore. He went to sleep peacefully on December 4 around 12 am. He passed away with a peaceful look on his face as if to say, I did it, I fought the fight. Peace is finally mine and not even death can take it away.
The family would like to express our special thanks to the amazing Nursing and Tech staff at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, NY who took care of David in November during his last hospital stay. A special Thanks to Dr. John Phelan ll, New York Oncology Hematology, who expressed hope that he could help David and took steps to do so. This helped him to have a positive outlook until the end. We are truly grateful that you cared enough to try, which is all we wanted. May God bless the giving, caring spirit you all showed David. He was grateful. Our most Sincere Thanks.
Out of Love and concern for the safety of Family and Friends during the Covid-19 pandemic, we will have a digital Memorial Service via Zoom for David on Saturday December 19, 2020 at 1:00 pm. Which is what we feel he would want. Those who would like to attend may follow the instructions provided below. If you are unfamiliar with Zoom, please look online for guidance, or seek out friends and family members who can assist you. (PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT SIMPLE CHOICES FOR ASSISTANCE) Thank you for cooperating with this arrangement. It is solely to keep everyone safe during this difficult time.
At a later date when restrictions have been lifted, we will revisit the idea of a gathering of family and friends to celebrate David’s life and honor his legacy.
With love and appreciation. The Family of David Allen Glass Jr.
