Oh goodness, my heart is aching to hear that Joanne passed away. We met on the same Road Scholar trip a few years ago and I consider myself the lucky one for having met her and becoming good friends. Our hope was to go on another of those travels together. We kept in touch through emails and I loved reading about her travels with her granddaughter. I could tell that connection was special. I will miss her laugh and her never-ending spirit of adventure.

Joanne’s passing is tragic, because she was so young and it all happened so fast! After retiring from DEC, we kept in touch through emails, cellphone and always connected whenever I returned to NY. She was fun to be around and we had great visits, going places, lunches or having ice cream at the Dutch Udder. I learned a lot from her and her vacation trips were always interesting! If I ever wanted advice I knew she’d give it to me straight up, nicely, but sheer honesty. We’d usually end conversations with her hysterical laugh that I longed to hear. My heart goes out to her very close and beloved family, of whom she was so proud of. I feel blessed to have known Joanne and I sincerely will miss our friendship.

Joanne was a bright lady with a great sense of humor. We have worked, skiied, hiked, attended concerts and had many lunches together. It was always a pleasure to spend time with Joanne. She will most certainly be missed.

Joanne was like a mentor when I started at DEC. She was hilarious in her cynical way, and I remember she used to sneak up and kick the back of my chair and then follow up with a funny comment about some horrible bureaucratic policy that ITS upper management came up with that seems ridiculous to us more logical people. She definitely made work much more fun.

My friendship with Joanne was brief. We just met in February when we went on a trip to Disney with our grandchildren. We quickly developed a warm bond and had the opportunity to enjoy our favorite margaritas. We promised to stay in touch to continue what was anticipated to be a long friendship. I felt blessed to be introduced to Joanne by my grandson and her granddaughter, never expecting this sudden loss. It is not often you meet someone you recognize the ability to laugh with and just enjoy life with. I feel robbed of what was sure to be a long friendship and the promise of making fond memories with. Joanne had a distinct and infectious laugh. Now when I put the Disney sweatshirt on that I bought on the trip, I refer to it as "putting on my Joanne." I will miss the friendship we just began and lament the memories we were supposed to have as new girl friends! I will not forget you my friend.

For a person known for saying "People are idiots!" she had a genius for friendship, and many true friends. Her laugh was her passport to any group, any place. It's been my great fortune to spend many hours and many miles in her company.

I worked with Joanne for many years at DEC, she was a wonderful person, and took on her responsibilities reliably and seriously.
