Obituary of Paul A. Stefanik

Paul Andrew Stefanik, age 49, lost his battle with Frontotemporal Dementia with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a degenerative motor neuron condition, on Saturday August 31, 2019.
Paul is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Michelle Christy (Layman) Stefanik and his daughter Kes Krysti. He is also survived by his mother, Eileen Smith, his step-mother Rose Stefanik, his mother-in-law, Lynne (Ruso) Wallace, and siblings: Aaron Stefanik, Ryan (Stefanik) Stott, Rebecca (Layman) and Thomas Rosario, Nancy (Layman) and Andrew Stuckey, Deborah (Wallace) and Paul Davis, John and Frankie (Arnold) Wallace, and Scott and Diana (Wallace) Van Wormer as well as cousins, nieces and nephews, and a great-nephew. Paul was pre-deceased by his fathers-in-law Buford (Bob) Layman and John (Jack) Wallace, and his father Donald Stefanik.
Paul was a 1988 graduate of Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Senior High School where he was co-captain of the varsity football team, played percussion in the band and was a founding member of the jazz ensemble. After graduation he worked in the small engine business as well as other jobs before taking time off of full time work to raise Kes. When she started kindergarten Paul entered college in his 30s. He graduated from Hudson Valley Community College in 2006 and The College of Saint Rose in 2009, where he graduated with honors receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology. He briefly attended graduate school at the University of Cincinnati studying glacial geology and went on to work in the field of Environmental Consulting.
Paul loved animals, the outdoors, sports, music and motorcycles. He especially treasured family trips to Schroon Lake and walks at Chapel Pond in the Adirondacks. Donations in his memory can be made to the Cornell Hook & Ladder Fire Company, 77 Gill Rd, New Baltimore, NY 12192, where Paul was a member and started their drum corps.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a day of remembrance for Paul which will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 2-6 pm at the Cornell Hook & Ladder Fire House, 77 Gill Rd, New Baltimore.
