Obituary of Ulrich Hans Czapski
Ulrich H. Czapski died April 12, 2018 at his home near Voorheesville, NY. He was born in Munich, Germany on July 15, 1925. He studied in Germany and Sweden and obtained a doctorate in natural science (Dr. rer. nat.) in 1953. In 1954 he married Renate K. Leitl. They lived in Germany, Brazil, Pakistan, and England while Ulrich worked as a seismologist and advisor to the UN-WHO. In 1965 he accepted a position in the Dept. of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at SUNY Albany, NY, where he was a professor for thirty years.
He enjoyed playing duplicate bridge, traveling, growing orchids, and life with his family on their farm at the foot of the Helderberg Escarpment. He was predeceased by his parents, Hans and Veronica (Erdmann) Czapski, and his sister Susanne.
He is survived by his wife Renate, son Marc, and nieces and nephews. His family will remember him and miss him forever. Services will be held in July at the farm. Visit SimpleChoicesCremation.com to leave a message for the family.
