Julie Tanner

Obituary of Julie A. Tanner

Julie Ann Tanner, 64, of Niskayuna, peacefully went into the loving arms of our Eternal Savior, Jesus Christ, in the early morning hours of Friday April 20 at Ellis Hospital.

Born in Schenectady on June 23, 1953; Julie went to Linton High School, then attended Schenectady County Community College from 1972 to 1974 and from 1978 to 1981, earning an Associate Degree in Human Services. She returned to S.C.C.C. from 2005 to 2007, earning an Associate Degree in Paralegal studies. She worked for many years as a paraprofessional at Schenectady City Schools. Julie was a true warrior in her advocacy for the disabled, special needs children and the prevention of cruelty to animals. She was involved with NYS Animal Advocacy Day, helping to maintain its Facebook page, along with the creation of “Julie’s List;” in which she informed the public of animal cruelty news stories.

She was recognized by many notable people, including WTEN Chief Meteorologist Steve Caporizzo and Senator Jim Tedisco, who recently awarded her the NYS Senate Liberty Medal – the State Senate’s highest honor.

Julie is survived by her son, Thomas George Tanner of Niskayuna and many beloved friends and special people in her life who will miss her dedicated contributions to society.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Many thanks to the Community & Ellis Hospice Program and many friends for helping her along her way.
