Dear Denise, Krysten and Ashley we have only good memories of the stay in our house before during and after the wedding of Krysten and Steven April 21-23, last.
We know Phil enjoyed so much of what he has seen during the visit in Europe and he and we had a good time together specially in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
It is hard to believe he is not there anymore to meet again in Schenectady or Amstelveen.
We send our very best wishes for all of you.

From the Brown Family: During long weekend visits, at musical performances, and Smith graduation with my dear friend Krysten, I got to know the Oates family well. They opened their hearts to me when I was in college, far from home originally hailing from Seattle, WA, and wanted to feel like I was with family for a little while. They gave me my first tour of Schenectady. Phil was such a generous and smart father and I am so happy that Phil and Denise got to meet my parents at Krysten and mine's graduation in 2006. He will be missed. From our coast to yours, we send all our love. -Marlo Brown

Dear Denise,
I was so sorry to read of your husband, Philip's, passing. I remember meeting him at a West Hill reunion and thinking what a kind person he seemed. It's been many years since we've been neighbors and childhood buddies but West Hill bonds are lasting. My condolences to you and your family.

Where to begin? Phil had a heart for family, friends, and every community he was a part of - whether it was West Hill, Schalmont, or the global community. Somehow the time he so generously gave, his smile when engaged with them, and the twinkle in his eyes made you want to care about them too. Of course, our fondest memories was the Oates - Pepe families' bike hike - it would never have taken place without his urging and direction! Our children were blessed to have Mr. Oates in their Jefferson classrooms, to be guests at their home for dinner, and to have the memories of the Oates family that we know they share. We send our deepest condolences and love to you all.

Denise: For the last six years I knew Phil, it was always filled with pleasure to have discussions in the back yard. I feel an emptiness now when I go to my gardens or mow. Phil was a very kind man and always spoke well of anyone and anything. His encouraging conversations will certainly be missed. I'll see you around the block. Peace, Bob Baldwin

Phil was the dearest person I have ever met. Since childhood he was someone that I rode the school bus with daily k-12 :). My thoughts and prayers and with Denise and his daughters. He will greatly missed by all.
