Joan Snyder

Obituary of Joan Marie Snyder

Joan Marie (DeMarco) Snyder, formerly of Quaker Street, N.Y. / Cohoes, N.Y., passed into eternal life peacefully at Wesley Health Care Center, Saratoga Springs, with her loving daughter Joanne by her side on February 11, 2016. Born on June 2, 1940 in Albany, NY, she was one of six children born to the late Salvatore Michael and Gladys Mae (Hammond) DeMarco and beloved wife of the late Harold W. Snyder. Joan worked in all aspects of nursing on and off for thirty years but enjoyed the one on one care of private duty most. She married Harold on February 7, 1965 and in 1971 they moved to Quaker Street, NY where she raised her only child Joanne and many fury critters. She started her own maid service business with her cousin Patricia Marony but in 1980 was forced into early retirement due to health issues. Joan was also a caregiver to her mother Gladys until her death in 1986. Joan donated countless hours at the Delanson Senior Center helping with numerous fund raisers, organizing events, driving shut-ins to appointments, and delivering meals on wheels. After the death of her husband in 1996, Joan moved to Cohoes, NY in October of 2001 to be closer to her family and then in June of 2012 moved to the Midrise Apartments in Mechanicville. Due to failing health, Joan entered into the Wesley Health Care Center where she finished out the remainder of her life. Joan loved to fish, crochet, knit, play bingo, cards, dice, and cook for family and friends, but most of all she loved teaching cards and playing bingo with her beloved granddaughter Lily. Joan is survived by her daughter Joanne (Ronald) Czajkowski of Mechanicville, NY; her granddaughter and grandson, Lillian and Kyle Czajkowski of Mechanicville; her brothers Roy (Margaret) DeMarco of Malta, NY and Salvatore (Betty) DeMarco of Florida; her sisters Denise (Charlie) Secor of Rensselaer, NY; Sonia DeMarco of Waterford, NY; Sandra (Larry) Lundgrem of Florida. Joan will be remembered for her genuine concern and generosity for others. Memorial services will be held at 3:30pm Thursday February 18, 2016 at the St. Luke’s on the Hill Episcopal Church, 40 McBride Road, Mechanicville, NY 12118, followed by a celebration of Joan’s life at the church. In lieu of flowers, since Joan was all about giving, family asks that you please bring a non perishable food item to be given to the Mechanicville Community Center in Joan’s memory. Condolences may be expressed by signing the family's online guestbook.
