REXFORD –
Sharon Porter Winters, 66, of Rexford, passed away in hospice care at her son's house in Glenville on January 2, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Niskayuna on August 15, 1958 to the late Edward Porter and Marguerite (Joos) Porter. Sharon was a 1977 graduate of Shenendehowa High School. After graduation she attended the Westchester School for professional training and obtained an EKG technician certification. During her studies she worked at Ellis Hospital.
Sharon was a life member of the Vischer Ferry Fire Company ladies auxiliary, and also worked as an election inspector.
Her greatest joy in life was vacationing in Maine, spending the holidays with her loved ones, and caring for her pets.
Sharon's love for animals was second to none. If it wasn't her own pets, she was known to take care of and feed the neighborhood strays. No cat ever went hungry, or missed a meal with Sharon around.
In July of 2012 Sharon married the love of her life the late David Winters.
Along with her husband, Sharon was predeceased by her parents (Ed & Marge Porter), numerous Aunt's and Uncle's, and her beloved pets.
Sharon is survived by her son Daniel Porter, his fiancé Marcy Machnick, granddaughter Angel Porter, brothers: Kevin (Cathy) Porter, Mike Porter and his girlfriend Cathy Harrington, nephews: Sean Porter, Chris Porter, David Porter, as well as numerous cousins. She is also survived by her pets, Rusty, Freddy and Red.
A springtime service will be determined at a later date.
Contributions in Sharon's honor can be made to either the Animal Protective Foundation in Schenectady, or the Vischer Ferry Vol Fire Company.
A huge thank you to each of the Hospice workers who helped out significantly during her final couple of weeks.
