Obituary of Judy L. Hunt

STEPHENTOWN –

Judy L. Hunt, 68, of Stephentown, a lifelong resident, passed away on December 26, 2024 at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

She was born on January 16, 1956 in Troy, New York. A daughter of the late Donald P. and Barbara L. (Lincoln) Gardner.

Judy was raised in Stephentown, New York, where she lived her entire life and received her education locally through the Berlin Central School District, where she graduated.

Former employment in Judy’s adult life includes: Hospice Care for the Elderly, Housekeeping Services, and also W.J. Cowee and Atlantis Steel.

Judy was very involved in her local community having served as the Stephentown Senior Trip coordinator and former President of the organization, and for 12 years she was in charge of the Christmas Tree lighting in Stephentown New York

Judy was an avid motorsports fan, whether it was reminding everyone that she had won a race at Lebanon Valley, watching NASCAR (while rooting for Kevin Harvick or Terry LaBonte) or NHRA Drag racing (while rooting on John Force and his daughters). She loved becoming a grandmother and cherished the moments spent with all four of her grandchildren.

Judy loved her dogs, and as her children grew up and left the home she had numerous “fur babies” (Willie, Sabo, Sky, Ike and Smokey, to name some). You could always walk in the house and expect to see the Discovery Channel on the television and maybe get a hug or a “colorful response” depending on the day.

Judy possessed a strong personality that always let you know where she stood - but she was always up for a discussion about it (or an argument depending on how you judged it.) The good thing was - you always knew where you stood with her (or her opinion.)

Under the “rough and tough layer”, Judy was a giver and tried to make everyone around her feel better. Once you gained her trust you were family and she cared so much for her family. Judy and her colorful messages will be missed but hopefully will live on through the people that had the opportunity to meet her.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Joel B. Hunt, whom she married on October 15, 1977 in the Stephentown Federated Church. Her two children: Boyd (Kimberly) Hunt and Laura Hunt. Her grandchildren: Dale Hunt, Emma Hunt, Talia Hunt and Grayson Hunt).  Also surviving is one brother and sister-in-law, Neil (Susan) Gardner. Judy was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews on both sides of her family.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Saturday, January 4, 2025, Calling Hours: 12-2 PM at the West Stephentown Baptist Church, 1672 NY-43, Stephentown, NY 12169. A Memorial Service will be held from 2-3 PM in the church that same afternoon. All are welcomed.
