Obituary of Stephen D. Moran

TROY –
 
Mr. Stephen D. Moran, 58, of Troy, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Friday, July 12, 2024.
 
Stephen was the fifth of eight children born to Beverly Ann (Farley) Moran and the late Joseph P. Moran of Troy. He was born on November 9, 1965 in Troy and was a lifelong resident. In his youth, Stephen was a member of the Armory Little League (next to R.P.I.). He graduated from Troy High School (class of 1983) where he was a member of the football team.
 
Stephen enlisted in the United States Army on June 5, 1987. He was a member of the Army’s 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) ("Screaming Eagles") with its headquarters in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. During his military career, Stephen received the following accolades and commendations: The Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Marksman Badge M16 Rifle, Army Lapel Button and the Air Assault Badge. Stephen was released from active duty on June 9, 1989 receiving an honorable discharge for his service. He then became a reservist until his term obligation expired on February 22, 1995.  
 
Mr. Moran was formerly employed by Price Chopper in their deli department for 14 years. Following that, he became a label machine operator for the Pepsi Company in Latham for a period of 9 years until retirement. At the time of his death, Stephen was employed per diem at the Roarke Center in downtown Troy, a job for which he loved and was able to care for others in need.
 
For those who knew Stephen best, you may recall his affinity for collecting bottles, and TROY bricks along the shore line of the Hudson River. He also was an avid collector of comic books, albums and coins.
 
Stephen will be remembered as a kind soul and his presence will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
 
In addition to his mother, Beverly A. Moran, Stephen is survived by three precious children: Nadia Moran, Rosalyn Lubking and Brandon Moran. His surviving siblings are: Matthew, Patrick, David, Timothy, Kimberly and Erin Moran. A special sister-in-law, Deborah Moran, as well as aunts, uncles, many nieces and nephews and several cousins also survive. In addition to his father, Joseph P. Moran, Stephen was predeceased by his youngest brother, Jeffrey.
 
Cremation has taken place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc.
 
Services for Stephen will be privately held in the Gerald B.H. Solomon – Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. For those who wish to honor Stephen’s memory in a special way, the Moran family requests donations to The Roarke Center, 107 4th Street, Troy, NY 12180. This is what Stephen would have wanted.
