Rotterdam – Keith S. Smith, age 58, of Rotterdam, died peacefully on May 11, 2024 at Ellis Hospital from complications due to pneumonia. He lived with his loving partner, Paul Lewis, for 27 years.

Keith was born on August 26, 1965 in Little Falls, New York to the late Bruce L. and Geri (Newman) Smith. He grew up in Dolgeville, New York with his six brothers. He graduated with honors from Dolgeville Central High School in 1983, where he was a saxophone player and drum major in the school’s concert and marching band. He went on to become a very talented hair stylist and opened his own salon in the Albany area. Sadly, back and neck pain forced him to give up his career as a stylist. Keith was very fond of the many pets he and Paul had, especially their two dogs Maci and Maida.

Besides his partner of 27 years, Keith is survived by five of his brothers, Todd (Lori) of Dolgeville, Bruce of Dolgeville, Brian (Karleen) of Thomaston, Connecticut, Brad of Ashland, Massachusetts, and Blake (Jessica) of East Syracuse, New York. He is also survived by his Aunt Patti Mosier of Dolgeville, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and many very close friends. Besides his parents, Keith was predeceased by his brother, Brett.

Keith’s partner, Paul, and Keith’s family are grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff at Ellis Hospital, who cared for Keith with compassion and dignity during his illness.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
