Obituary of Robert Lewis Moore
SCHENCTADY -
A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Robert L. “Lew” Moore, 85, of Schenectady, NY, died at home after a courageous battle with Cancer on March 22, 2024.
He was born in Coxsackie, NY in 1938 to Dean Robert Moore and Edna Mae Simpkins, and grew up in Hannacroix, NY.
Lew met the love of his life, Joan Burke, in 1960 while they both worked at the Bureau of Motor Vehicle in Albany, NY. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married May 5, 1962.
Lew worked in the graphic arts in printing. He worked in printer service repair for Itek and as an independent contractor for service. Lew also performed print services for Price Chopper. After retirement, Lew enjoyed part time work culminating at Schenectady Floor Covering until his final retirement.
Lew was a member of The Rotterdam Elks, often found working in the kitchen supporting community events or participating in the Dart league. He enjoyed his 26+ years with his Elk brothers.
His woodworking skills were exceptional, and he enjoyed making many intricate pieces for family, friends and the Elks.
Lew was preceded in death by his father Dean Moore, Mother Edna Court, stepfather Willis Court, step Grandson Michael S. Hayden; and is survived by his wife Joan, his daughters Theresa Speach (Brian) Beth Hayden (Mike) and Deann Poleon (Mike); 4 grandchildren Alisa Evans (Anthony), Jessica Hayden (Brian), Connor Poleon, Andrew Poleon and Tabitha Hyam (Chris). Lew mentioned on numerous occasions that he had beautiful great grandchildren Jayden, Avery and Harper Evans and Joelle Hyam. Lew will also be missed by sister-in-law’s Elisa & Betty Burke and many nieces and nephews to include extended family George and Bonnie Demers.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the wonderful people at Community Hospice of Schenectady, Renee, Missy, Rachel, Gretchen and Noah.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on April 21, 2024, which would have been Lew’s 86th Birthday, at the 19th Hole at Briar Creek Golf Course from 12:00 PM -3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lew’s name to: The Community Hospice, and sent to The Community Hospice Foundation, 310 S. Manning Blvd, Albany, NY 12208 or online at www.givetocommunityhospice.org/donate/.
We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, father, brother-in- law, uncle and friend and will miss Lew every day.
