I was saddened to have to read about the death of Bob Rice, whom I got to know extremely well during my 34-year tenure as a Times Union sportswriter. Bob was the best Sports Information Director (while he was at what we used to call Albany State) I ever had the pleasure to have dealings with. He was always a gentleman, thorough in his reports and always available for help with something. His passing is a loss to us all. My sincere condolences to his family.

Bob and I were high school classmates at Bethlehem Central High School. He was a valuable part of several of our high school reunions. He was a gentle soul and a person of high integrity and yes, humor!! I enjoyed skiing with he and Linda several years ago - they were always traveling and had some wonderful adventures together. I know he will be sorely missed by many but is at last, at peace.
Having only known Bob for a short time, his kindness, gentleness and good nature were obvious. It was an honor to have visited with him and we really enjoyed clogging for him!

He was one of the most relaxed and composed men I have ever known.
Bob was so competent and so generous with his time and giving of his person.
