The family spent weekends camping in the Adirondacks or boating on Lake George aboard the 'Katy-Did'.  Katy loved to travel, first through the US National Parks with her husband and their children, and later adventures around the world with friends and family. She eventually retired from teaching to enjoy a part time job as a tour guide for Yankee Trails.

"Oh, the West Virginia hills! I must bid you now adieu.
In my home beyond the mountains I shall ever dream of you;
In the evening time of life, if my Father only wills,
I shall still behold the vision of those West Virginia hills."
