Obituary of Donald Dale Smith

Galway – Donald D. Smith went to be with our Lord on May 27, 2023, peacefully in the comfort of his home. The son of the late Dale and Mary (Prozen) Smith, Donald was born on October 20, 1937 in Kingsford, Michigan. Donald finished his first nine years of public education in the Detroit Public School system as an honorary student. In January 1953, He moved to Philadelphia and then relocated to Albany, New York to finish his senior year at Guilderland Central High School, 1956. He also attended Russell Sage College that fall. Donald served honorably in the New York State National Guard and Civil Air Patrol from 1955-1969 achieving Specialist E5. His career was with Bell Telephone and AT&T companies, adding telephone lines in commercial buildings, and the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY. He was a member of the Gideon International organization for over 20 years, He was a long time member and involved in leadership at the Barkersville Christian Church, and in recent years a member of Saratoga Abundant Life Church. He loved vanilla ice cream, classic Jaguars, the Dallas Cowboys, golfing, traveling to Florida and Maine, camping, caring and praying for people, made friends easily, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, enjoyed reading the Bible. Survivors include his loving wife of eight years, Jill (Peltier) Smith, his younger brother Ed Smith, wife Doreen and their children. Donald was predeceased by his previous wife of 46 years, Carole Joyce (deRouville), whom he loved very much. The Smith family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all their relatives and friends during his journey with Parkinson Disease. Special thanks to his year-long health aides and The Community Hospice staff for their compassion and care. A Celebration of Life will be at Smith's residence. Cremation has taken place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc. as Don desired.
