A private service will be held for his family and interment with military honors will take place in the Gerald B.H. Solomon - Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.

Obituary of Hans M. Hillander

NISKAYUNA – Hans M. Hillander, 100, of Niskayuna, entered into rest on March 23, 2023, at the Ellis Residential & Rehabilitation Center in Schenectady. Born on May 7, 1922, in Sweden, Hans arrived in America as a boy at the age of 12. Hans served his adopted country during World War II in the 8th Army Air Force in Europe. In 1954 he started working as a physical therapist at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital and retired after 35 years of service. Mr. Hillander was a member of the following organizations: the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Niskayuna Elks, the Glenville Senior Center, the American Legion, and the Vasa Order of American Lodge Tegner 109. Hans was the devoted husband of the late Ida (Bura) Hillander, whom he married on May 18, 1947, in Brooklyn, NY. He was the loving father of Ellen Hillander and Christine Oakes. Cherished grandfather of: David Oakes (Liz), Kateri Oakes Costello (Robert) and Rachel Oakes, and great grandfather of Natalie Oakes.
