Obituary of Louise Willis Felkel

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Louise Willis Felkel, affectionately “Grandma Lou” or “Grandma Lou Lou”, passed away on March 14, 2023, at the age of 100. Louise was the daughter of the late Alfonso and Maria Buono. She was born in Brooklyn, NY and was raised there and in Huntington NY. Louise was predeceased by her first and second husbands, Henry Willis and George Felkel, her son Roy Willis (May), her brothers Ralph and Dominic Buono, and by her sisters Florence Goudie, Anna Buono, Carmella Perkowski and Helen Horn. She is survived by her son Harry Willis (Sandy), her sister Lola Banteir, her grandchildren Regina Willis (Matt), Mark Willis (Sarah), Michael Willis, Peter Willis (Beth), and Steven Willis (Christine), as well as by ten great-grandchildren and several generations of nieces and nephews. Louise was employed by the NY State Department of Mental Hygiene for over 30 years, first as a psychiatric aide and then as a registered nurse. She was a loving and supportive wife and a devoted Mom, always being there to advocate for her children. She loved cooking delicious Italian dishes for her family, and was also extremely artistic, attested by her many beautiful needle-works, quilts, tapestries, and decorative pillows. Louise could be driven and determined, when necessary, witness her completion of the requirements for a nursing degree at age 49. She took up golf at age 56, eventually scoring two aces and winning several senior trophies! A four-leaf clover was her lucky charm, especially on her visits to Vegas, where she usually emerged a winner. And of course, she never wavered in support of her beloved Mets and Islanders. Through it all, Louise maintained a positive outlook, always making those around her feel better. Rest in eternal peace, Mom -- we will miss you.
