Obituary of Timothy J. Maney

ALBANY – Timothy J Maney, 64, of Albany, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2023, hand in hand with both his children by his side. Tim was born and raised in Colonie, where as a teenager he earned a winning reputation for his remarkable athletic ability and achievement. After first demonstrating exceptional talent on the football field, he was recruited to the soccer team where he continued to excel. In his first year with the sport, he set several new records for both the Colonie Central High School athletic department as well as the Suburban Council. In 1992, many years after graduating and starting a family, Tim would discover yet another sport that he was both passionate for and tremendously skilled at. With the encouragement of his older brother, Tim joined an over-30 men's baseball league, which was the beginning of a long love affair with the sport. With his family no doubt cheering from the bleachers, he spent his weekends at various ball fields around the Capital District, doing what he loved most and did best. Even helped to lead his team to victory in the 1998 MSBL World Series where they competed with over 70 other teams from across the globe. Tim was no doubt an incredibly gifted athlete, but perhaps what he will be remembered for most was his uncanny ability to make those around him laugh. He could crack even the toughest of exteriors with his effortless charm and quick wit. With a smile he could light up a room and with his relentless humor send everyone in it into a fit of laughter. If you ask any of his friends, family, or even past coworkers at Northeast Telecommunications, where he was employed for over 30 years, you will no doubt get the same general consensus. Tim was kind, generous, dependable, always willing to help and always good for a laugh, or two or three! Quite simply, if you knew him, you loved him, and those of us who were blessed enough to have known and loved him are forever grateful for the many memories of good times and great laughs. They will surely be what helps to carry us through this difficult time of loss. And though our hearts ache, we take comfort in knowing we'll find his spirit in all the places he loved so much, including the home he shared with his loving partner, Patty, for more than 15 years, and cheering from the sidelines at every sporting event his 6 grandchildren will take part in. We love you Tim, Dad, Pop-pop, and we will honor your life and your spirit for all our days, until we meet again. Tim is survived by devoted partner, Patty Pitcherello, his children: Rick (Brianne) Maney and Nicole (Michael) Linacre, his grandchildren: Jordan, Zachary, Chase, Gabe, Ivy and Hayden, his siblings: Tom (Beth) Maney, Kathy (Bob) Womer, Chris (Kathy) Maney Shawn Maney (Laura Church Maney) and George Maney, as well as many loving nieces and nephews also survive. In accordance with Tim's wishes, his remains have been cremated, through the care of Simple Choices, Inc. The Maney Family has chosen to honor Tim in a private way.
