I send love to Lidia ;she has always been a devoted sister.
Roman was a character and very interesting. He loved strong robust black coffee. While he was waiting for his laundry- he would ask me - "Do you have a cup of coffee?" I would make him a cup of coffee and he would deliver a mini lecture on some part of the world. He was very well read and informed so I looked forward to his sharing. Sometimes , he woud talk about a wonderful meal or one of hikes or an experience in Europe. . He was very upset by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
He had a sense of humor and would tell a joke about Trump and sometimes he would just shake his head. I had no idea he was fluent in so many languages and had such an interesting and diverse academic career. He will be missed by all those who knew him -Mabel Leon

Sad news indeed my friend, to learn of your passing. The passion and zest for life that you possessed will continue to inspire me, and I´m sure many others that were fortunate enough to share your presence. Our adventures shared in the High Peaks will always be remembered and treasured. Yours was a life well lived, that made a difference to so many. Thank you Roman. Happy Trails, Ron Lester

Roman and I became friends when he moved here from Washington DC. We shared many things from our love for learning, interest in diversity to our understanding that the world is a lot bigger than the US. He drove my son to LaSalle Institute for two years, and I believe our Andrew became educated just by listening to Roman and NPR as they drove to Troy where Hudson Valley and La Salle Institute are located.
He used to email me almost weekly, and from different publications, articles about Peru, my native country. Also his opinions about current affairs and especially during the Trump administration there were many things to discuss.
Roman, we miss you and please look after us from the paradise that you might be now.

My belated but sincere condolences to Roman’s family and friends. I became friends with Roman in grade school and since neither of us had a TV we spent a lot of time at the Amsterdam Library. Roman was an avid reader and brilliant in a quiet way. We separated for high school but connected again as classmates at Fordham. I learned so much from Roman about Ukraine and Eastern Europe. I was unaware of his passing and I mourn his loss. I will never forget him. He was one of a kind. Sincerely Jim Villa FCO 66
