Obituary of Matthew William Johnson

CAMBRIDGE - Matthew “Matt” William Johnson, 63, of Cambridge, New York, formerly Germantown, MD passed away peacefully at Saratoga Hospital on February 1, 2023, after a long illness. Born May 23, 1959 in Richland, WA to the late William and Romelle Johnson, Matt grew up in Potomac, MD. Matt earned his Bachelor’s degree from Frostburg State University. Subsequently, he worked in insurance in the greater Washington DC area. After moving to Cambridge to be near Margaret’s aging father, Dr. Harold Owen, in 2007, he continued a career in sales. Matt was a devoted husband and loving father. He and his daughter shared a love for a perfectly cooked filet and a slice of cheesecake from the Nuns of New Skete. Matt had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed talking to people. He spent much of his spare time reading and researching American history. Matt liked watching football and was a lifelong fan of the Washington Commanders. With his family, he enjoyed walks in nature and exploring the surrounding areas, but a sandy beach was his greatest pleasure. Matt is survived by his wife, Margaret Owen Johnson, whom he married on November 19, 1994 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Cambridge, NY; daughter Catherine S. Johnson of Honolulu, HI and his siblings; Michelle Madonna (Peter), Timothy Johnson (Carolyn) and Angela Starr (Barry) as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Our heartfelt thanks to our family and many friends who provided support during this time. Your love and thoughtfulness does not go unnoticed and is a tremendous comfort.
