Obituary of Gloria Ruth Dugan

SLINGERLANDS –

Gloria Ruth Dugan passed away peacefully on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Our Lady of Mercy Nursing Home in Guilderland, NY at the age of 102.

The youngest daughter of the late Frank and Maisie Brown (nee Gunter) Gloria was born on February 28, 1922 in Feeding Hills, Massachusetts. Born in the north after her family had relocated to Massachusetts from Virginia, Gloria was the only "darn Yankee" in the family. She graduated pro emerita from Agawam High School and was awarded an academic scholarship to Tufts University. Times being hard, she was unable to accept the scholarship. She met Lt. Daniel J. Dugan, Jr. while both were working at Westover Field in Chicopee, Massachusetts during World War II, and the couple were married on August 13, 1945. The end of WWII was declared while the couple were on their honeymoon.

Her husband, the late Daniel J. Dugan, Jr., was an attorney in Albany and worked for many years as Assistant District Attorney for Albany County and later, as Albany Assistant Corporation Counsel. Gloria worked in the NYS Department of Health Counsel's Office before retiring.

Gloria enjoyed the excitement of bargain hunting, cooking for kith and kin, and trips to NYC to visit friends and see Broadway shows. Most of all, she loved time with her family and was a devoted mother.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel, her parents, and her siblings, Alice Macrae, Elsie Reynolds, Vivian Wakefield, Byron Brown, and Alvin Brown.
