Obituary of Steven M. Lutz, Sr.

LEBANON SPRINGS, NY –

Steven Michael Lutz Sr, age 76, went to his eternal home on March 17, 2024.

He is survived by his children, Steven Jr (Stephanie), Daniel (Deborah), Christie (Jarrod) Jones; his nine Grandchildren, Willy, Nicolo, Madeline, Marni, Josiah, Priscilla, Titus, Henry, and Jubilee; his siblings, Bob (Ginny) Lutz, Carol (Ray) Nostrand and Virginia Hofmann.  Along with many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Steve was born to Henry and Joan (Downing) Lutz on June 21, 1947, and raised in Huntington, New York. He was a life-long car enthusiast. In the ‘60s you could find him wrenching on cars or racing them at the drag strip on Long Island. His interest in cars led him to a career in the automotive industry. First as a mechanic with the local service station and auto dealership and from there to a long and successful sales and management career with Snap-on-Tools. Steve married Catherine Pugliese in 1967, and they soon added the three children. As the family grew, Steve gave up car racing for a more relaxed recreation on the waters of the Long Island sound. He was a proud Captain of many different family cruisers. In his later years, Steve relocated to New Lebanon, NY. There he enjoyed exploring the beauty of the Berkshires.  He was often found hopping local music festivals, shopping farmer’s markets and visiting the town auction house.

However, Steve's ultimate joy was found in visiting with his family and loving his nine grandchildren who equally adored him. The role of grandpa was one Steve fully embraced. His love for his grandkids was expressed in playfulness, affection and by ensuring they were always outfitted with warm clothes. He was immensely thankful and proud of each one.

Steve had an infectious laugh, wonderful sense of humor and kind heart. He had an uncanny ability to turn strangers into friends wherever he traveled. He loved and trusted his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He took solace in Scripture, and looked forward to the day his faith would become sight in eternity. Steve was a thoughtful, loving father, father-in-law, and grandpa. He will be deeply missed.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Henry Lutz (1979), his mother Joan Lutz (2019) and his brother-in-law, Tom Hofmann (2018).
The family is thankful to Steve’s longtime friends and neighbors, Bill and Mary, for their gracious love and support.

Cremation has taken place through the care of Simple Choices, Inc. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
