Obituary of Eugene T. Wager

VALLEY FALLS- Eugene Thomas Wager, 91, of Valley Falls, NY, peacefully passed away on February 3, 2022. Born in Watervliet, he was the son of the late Everett and Violet Adams Wager. Gene was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War. Shortly thereafter, he met his beloved wife, Margarete Breffke, in Germany and they were married for 52 years before her passing in 2005. Gene was employed at the Norton Company in Watervliet as a pipefitter for over 30 years. He was an avid reader, passionate woodworker, and in his early years, spent many summers backpacking and camping in the Adirondacks. We will miss Gene’s quick wit, clever inventions, and his affectionate reference to everyone as “kid”. In addition to his parents and wife, Gene was predeceased by sisters Violet Wright, Doris DeCrescente and Ellen McGovern, sister-in-law Edith Nitarski and their spouses. He is survived by his brother, Donald Wager and his wife Ruth (Georgia); his children, Thomas Wager and wife Jill, Thomas Haag and wife Robin (Tennessee), Connie Haag; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
