Obituary of Mary B. Mallgraf

JOHNSONVILLE- Mary B. Mallgraf of Johnsonville, passed away peacefully at home on January 29, 2022. She was 88. Born in Brooklyn, Mary was the daughter of the late William Dempsey, Sr. and Mary (Carey) Dempsey. She wed Edward Mallgraf in 1954, settled in Brooklyn, and began a family. During the next ten years, Mary and Ed brought five new faces in to the world - Deborah, Gary, Scott, Lori and Edward. In 1965, Mary, Ed, and family moved to their new home upstate in Guilderland, New York. In 2003, Mary and Ed moved to a 20 acre homestead in Johnsonville, New York. From their new home they had beautiful views of the fields and forests below. Mary and Ed lived out the remainder of their lives in their Johnsonville home. In 2005, she lost her beloved husband Ed, but not before they were able to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary together. She was a New York State Government retiree and also served for a number of years as President of her CSEA Local. Mary was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus auxiliary organization — the Columbiettes, and was also a volunteer for the Mill Hill Missionaries for many years. She was an avid arts and crafter and enjoyed painting and quilting. Mary also loved growing flowers and vegetables in her gardens. She loved to engage in long conversations with family and friends and was blessed with the “gift of gab”. Mary was tough, strong willed, deeply compassionate, and fiercely devoted to her family and friends. The woman had no quit in her. Mary surmounted obstacle after obstacle in her life and served as a great example to our family. She was our matriarch, our staunchest ally, and we were all blessed to have been the beneficiaries of her hard work, love, and support. She will be profoundly missed by us all.
