Obituary of Joyce Elizabeth Butler Vaughn

HALFMOON- Joyce Elizabeth Butler Vaughn, 70, from Halfmoon, New York passed away Thursday January 19th, 2022 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by the love of her family. Joyce was born on December 6, 1951 in Albany, New York. The daughter of late Robert and Miriam Joyce (Coulson) Butler. She was raised in the Capital District, later living in Virginia, Ohio, Kansas, and Florida. Joyce graduated from Guilderland High School in 1969 and later she attended Hudson Valley Community College where in 1992 she received her associate degree in Social Work. Afterwards, she worked at her family business operating Coulson’s News Stand. In 1982, she performed with her husband, son, and daughter as “The Vaughn Family Clowns” in Shrine Circuses across United States. She held membership and volunteered at the Shen United Methodist Church. During her free time, she loved volunteering at bible camps and endearing her love for childcare. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling with family, knitting, and raising her grandson. Survivors include her loving husband of 40 years William Vaughn, one son; Michael (Erin) Vaughn, one daughter; Jennifer Vaughn, grandchildren; Tyler Vaughn, Kylie (Nate) Giovannone and Marissa Vaughn, one sister; Barbara (Jeff) Emptage, one brother; William Butler along with cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. Church service and celebration of life will be held Tuesday, January 25th, 2022 11:00am at the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, 971 Route 146, Clifton Park, NY 12065. Inurnment will take place in the spring at Memory Garden in Albany, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joyce’s memory to Shenendehowa United Methodist Church for the Youth Work Camp and Youth Mission Trip funding.
