Obituary of Dylan S. Spencer

Sheridan, WY – Dylan S. Spencer, 30, of Sheridan, Wyoming, formerly of Halfmoon, New York, died February 20, 2021. Born on June 13, 1990 in Muskogee, OK, Dylan moved to New York in 1993 and attended Shenendehowa Central Schools from elementary through graduation in 2009. Dylan was raised by a single mother and was blessed to be in the Big Brother Program. He played baseball for Shen Little League through his early teens. Dylan was home sick from school on September 11, 2001. As the events unfolded, he watched the morning news and saw the Towers hit as it happened live. It was this event in our history that inspired Dylan to enlist and serve his country. After graduation from high school, Dylan enlisted in the Army. His beloved Malamute, "Timber", did his tour stateside, while Dylan served in Ground combat, Kandahar, Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom, 2010-2011. Dylan served as point person, /ED detection/detonation and as machine gunner. He had his 21st Birthday within months of Bin Laden capture. Upon return to Ft. Carson, CO after combat, he was recommended for West Point, but required extensive reconstruction of both lower legs as a result from the heavy weighted marching in sand terrain. After extensive recovery, Dylan resided in Wyoming, and has bravely battled the scourge of PTSD that plagues our Brave Warriors and was attending college courses part-time. Dylan was half Native American, and as with many of our Indigenous Culture, he served a large percentage of those who volunteer to defend this "Land of the Free", that was taken from them. Dylan was an avid graphic artist, his hobbies and interests included fishing, music his dogs and cats with which he grew up with. Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial services for Dylan on Saturday, March 20th in the Halfmoon Veteran’s Memorial Park, 162 Route 236, Halfmoon, NY 12065. A calling hour will be held from 12-1PM with a Celebration of Life at 1PM, concluding with military honors at 2:30PM. Local arrangements have been entrusted to Simple Choices, Inc.
