Obituary of Carl F. Nelson

LATHAM- Carl F Nelson, 59, of Latham, New York, formerly of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on March 9, 2021 at home after a lifelong battle with Sickle Cell Anemia. Carl was born on January 19, 1962 in Plaquemine, Louisiana. He was the son of the late William and Lillie Mae Nelson. Carl and his family moved to Anchorage, AK in 1975 when his dad was working on the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline. Carl, Laura and Christopher moved to New York in 2009. Carl graduated from Dimond High School in 1980 and studied computer science at Alaska Pacific University. He was employed at First National Bank Alaska from 1985-1997 and became a stay-at-home Dad in 2007 when he and Laura welcomed their son Christopher. Carl was a true fighter who faced many health challenges due to his condition. He had an infectious laugh, a big heart and never said goodbye without giving a hug. He was an immense music lover of all genres and passed this trait down to his son. He was a huge enthusiast of airplanes and history. He enjoyed halibut fishing, video games, movies and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include; Laura Nelson and their beloved son, Christopher Nelson, as well as three sisters; Arlene Nelson-Frelix, Jennifer Nelson and Darlene Williams-Prades and two brothers; Larry Nelson and James Nelson. Carl is also survived by his In-laws: Donald and Jacque Arcand, David and Anna Bourgeois, and Jamie Arcand. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and a host of many dear friends. Besides his parents, Carl was predeceased by grandparents Laura Anderson and James Hollins, his sister: Linda Washington, his brother: Warren Williams, sister-In-Law: Juanita Nelson and best friend Eddie McGaskey.
