WARRENSBURG- Vera Anna (VanderLey)Frederick, 92, of Warrensburg, formerly of Guilderland, passed away on JANUARY 22, 2021 at Westchester Medical Center following a brief illness. Vera was born in Albany on August 22, 1928 to the late Allen & Gertrude (Oldenburger) VanderLey. Vera’s parents immigrated to the US from the Netherlands on the USS Rotterdam in 1926. With Vera’s parents speaking primarily Dutch she grew up learning and speaking it as well. In her early years, she grew up on dairy farms in Schoharie and Middleburgh, where she also attended numerous one room schoolhouses. When Vera was 16 she was offered a contract by Ford modeling agency in NYC. She was a stay-at-home mom to her 4 children most of her life. She worked part time for St Peters Hospital, Albany Airport and The Times Union. Vera was witty, funny; always making those around her laugh. She was classy, down to earth, smart, caring, stubborn but sweet. She will be missed by her family and the friends she made through-out her travels. Vera was an avid oil painter and a gifted artist. She always claimed that her paintings “weren’t quite finished”. She specifically loved painting oceans and landscape scenes, sometimes creating her own Christmas cards. She loved garage sales and finding “antiques” or any “good deals”. She looked forward to her yearly visit with her son Donnie during the Warrensburg Garage Sale. She loved traveling-to different road trip destinations, especially to the ocean, her last ocean trip was to Newport RI. She enjoyed her weekly day trips with her daughter Sharon throughout Vermont, the Adirondacks to visit her daughter Paulette and the Catskills to visit her daughter Jeanne. She loved soap operas, watching the news, Hallmark, Lifetime, antiquing shows and her all-time favorite, Bob Ross. She loved reading magazines from Country Living to Good Housekeeping. She will be remembered by her grandchildren for her love of tea “with too much sugar”, cooking from scratch, pasta & “pa-tay-tahs”-potatoes. She was better known for her unique love of the color turquoise, which could be seen throughout her home, including her closet and jewelry. A color that reflected her stunning green eyes and vibrant personality. Vera would never leave the house without her beautiful blonde hair curled and makeup done, even up to her last day. She loved all animals, including farm animals & wildlife. She especially loved her dogs Brandy, Tiki and all of her dogs she had throughout her life. She enjoyed sharing stories of her childhood & travels, always including a bit of wit Above all else she loved visiting and being with her family and was happiest when with her family.
