Obituary of Gladys Diana Peterson
Gladys Diana Peterson (née Henchcliffe), widow of the late H. Stanley
Peterson, died on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the age of 92 following a
lengthy illness. She had lived in the Capital District for the last seven
years, most recently at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes. She resided in
Ridgefield, Connecticut for many years before relocating here.
Gladys was born on March 1, 1919 in Greenwich, Connecticut. She attended
Greenwich High School and was a graduate of Syracuse University, earning a
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She worked as an illustrator for Condé Nast
prior to her marriage. She continued her art work while married and leaves
behind a considerable body of work. Her paintings have been exhibited in a
number of art shows. Gladys also enjoyed singing in her glee club and the
church choir, gardening, and reading.
Surviving Gladys are her two sons and their spouses: Dr. H. Kenneth Peterson
and Kathleen V. O'Connell of Cincinnati, Ohio and Br. Stephen K. Peterson, OSJD and
The Most Reverend Richard G. Roy of Albany, NY. She is also survived by two
cousins, Mary Lucas of Lincoln, England and Graham Ball of Hinckley,
England, as well as several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and
grandnephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Eddy Village Green, 421 West Columbia Street, (24 Pasinella Way) Cohoes, NY 12047 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
All the friends Gladys has made while in the area are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers
charitable donations may be made to The Community Hospice
