Obituary of Helen B. White
Helen B. White, formerly of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Cobleskill, New York, died peacefully at the Wesley Healthcare Center in Saratoga Springs, on June 13, 2020.
Born in Bonifay, Florida on December 16, 1923 to Lon and Annabelle Brown, she was the fifth of six daughters. After graduating from high school, Helen went on to secretarial school in Montgomery, Alabama. There, she met her husband, Charles D. May, Jr. who was serving in the Air Force during WWII as an instructor pilot. After the war, they were married and moved to Cortland, New York so Charles could complete his college degree. Helen enjoyed her work as secretary to the president of the college there and remained in that position until they moved to Cobleskill, New York where Charles had accepted a teaching position.
During her years in Cobleskill, Helen enjoyed her many friends, volunteered with the hospital auxiliary and at Zion Lutheran Church. In later years, she continued to use her secretarial skills at SUNY Cobleskill, first as secretary to the Dean of Students and then in the agricultural division until her retirement.
In addition to her parents and siblings, Helen was pre-deceased by her first husband, Charles and second husband, Paul White. She is survived by her daughters, Pamela (Larry) Rorick of Ballston Lake, New York and Lonnie (John) Dahl of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Cobleskill, New York, as well as her granddaughter Shannon (Mark) Tomassi and two great-grandsons.
She loved her family dearly and enjoyed trips to visit them, delighting in seeing her granddaughter and great-grandsons grow up.
Many thanks from Helen’s family to Wesley Healthcare Center in Saratoga Springs for their compassion and superb care during our mother’s residence.
Private graveside services will be held on a date to be determined.
