Obituary of Richard Kastraveckas

Richard Kastraveckas, 68, of Perth NY, died peacefully on Monday, March 16, after a long illness. Born in Amsterdam on June 17, 1951, son of the late Edward and Julia Kastraveckas. Rick attended local schools and received his Masters in Education in Buffalo. Rick worked in special education for many years, including Oneida County BOCES, where he received an award from “Public Television in Education” for teaching his students sign language. Rick and his husband, John Darby, spent almost 37 years together. They both enjoyed traveling and rescued several dogs in their time as a couple. Besides his husband, John, Rick is also survived by his brother Robert (Nanette) Kastraveckas and their children, several brother and sister in-laws, nieces and nephews, and a close cousin Cindy (Douglas) Porcelli as well as many friends who will miss him dearly. Due to the current health restrictions and out of an abundance of caution, a memorial mass will be scheduled for a later date. Rick's family would like to thank the staff at St. Peter's Hospice for the loving care they provided Rick during his stay.
