Obituary of Arthur W. Parkes

Arthur William Parkes “Art”, 88, of Greenville NY died on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at the VA Hospital. He was born in Brooklyn NY July 17, 1930 to the late Walter and Dorothy (Keane) Parkes.
Arthur proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 and was stationed in Greenland. He was a life member and a former Commander of Durham Valley American Legion Post 1416.
Arthur was married to Irma Slater in 1956 until her death in February 2009. Arthur and Irma lived in Middleburgh, Massachusetts and Oak Hill NY during which time he managed a dairy farm, transported propane for Bonded Freight, and worked as a Manager for ShopRite in Catskill NY.
Arthur loved life, going on Sunday drives, deep sea fishing (trained to be a Captain), model trains, “spur of the moment” road trips, and coin collecting.
Arthur was preceded by his wife of 53 years Irma (Slater) Parkes and daughter Deborah (Parkes) Knapp. He is survived by his son Allen Parkes and wife (Dana); his grandchildren Kara (Parkes) Miller, Brandon Parkes, Brittany and Rachel Knapp; great grandchildren Emily, Natalie and Payten.
Burial with military honors will be held at the Middleburgh Cemetery, Schoharie County, NY in the spring.
