Obituary of Alice Lailer

Alice Lailer, 79, of Clifton Park NY, passed away at Samaritan Hospital in Troy NY on September 19th after a courageous battle with cancer.

 

Alice, the fourth of twelve children was born on May 9, 1939 to Elgee E. Brice & Elmer E. Darling.  She attended Portland public schools and worked as a waitress for many years before retiring from Pratt Abbott Cleaners in 2001. 

 

Alice was a very caring person and was known for always thinking of others before herself.  She was loved by anyone that knew her, especially her large family.  She most enjoyed being surrounded by her family, and could always be found playing bingo or cards with her family members. 

 

She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Eleanor E. “Ellie” Voisine, and her brothers William M. Darling Sr., George R. Darling, Steven A. Darling, Peter A. Darling, Frederick Darling and John G. Darling.

 

Alice is survived by her son Steven A. Lailer of Waterviliet, NY, son Michael A. Lailer and his wife Robin of Saratoga, NY, daughter Kimberly A. Mulhern and her husband Richard of Standish, ME, her son Kevin M. Lailer of Voorehsville, NY and daughter Julie A. Bruni and her husband Michael of Limington, ME; brothers James E. Darling of Steep Falls, ME, David M. Darling and his wife Elizabeth of Scarborough, ME; sisters Arlene Casey of Alfred, ME and Carolyn E. “Callie” Carson of Portland, ME; 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

 

A private ceremony for the family will be held at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland, ME on Friday, October 5th at 2:30pm.  The family invites family and friends to then join them in a celebration of life for Alice at  Keeley’s Banquet Center on Warren Avenue in Portland, ME from 4 – 6pm.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Alice Lailer. Donations can be made online, via the phone or thru the postal service. 

 

Her family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors and staff at New York Oncology Hematology of Clifton Park, NY the nursing staff at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, NY and Kate Hanley & Mary Maloney for the loving support they provided to her during her battle with cancer.
