Obituary of Jean Marie (Norton) Smith

Jean Marie (Norton) Smith, 100, of Albany, formerly of Delmar, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, October 6, 202 at a place she called home, the Loudonville Assisted Living Residence.
 
She was born on June 4, 1925 in Oneonta, NY. A daughter of the late Roland W. Norton and Elizabeth (Dykeman) Norton and was raised in Raised in Cooperstown, NY. Jean graduated from Richfield Springs Central School. In her young adult life she was a nanny in Binghamton, NY. After her marriage she became a dedicated homemaker. She was also a proud member of Del's Bell's bowling team.
 
Jean was united in marriage to Earl Glenn Smith of Schuyler Lake, NY on April 3, 1945 prior to him leaving on deployment for WWII. Their friendship began in 7th grade. They enjoyed 77 years of marriage until his passing in 2023. Jean traveled with Earl on construction sites all over the United States. They could always find friends to join a card game. Jean was an avid reader and enjoyed maintaining their beautiful property.
 
Jean was a cherished aunt and is survived by several nieces and nephews who will forever remember her.
 
Jean was predeceased by her parents and her husband whom she now joins.
 
Jean’s nieces and nephews wish to sincerely thank the caring staff at Loudonville Assisted Living Residence and also The Community Hospice for their compassion.
 
Private Interment will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs at the convenience of the family.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The Community Hospice of Albany.
