Obituary of Gloria Jenkins Seymour

NISKAYUNA –

Gloria Seymour (nee Jenkins) of Niskayuna NY passed away on May 29, 2025, of natural causes.  She was born September 10, 1932 in Tarrytown NY, the daughter of the late Frank E. Jenkins, Sr. and the late Eva B. Jenkins (nee Green). She was one of three siblings.  Gloria attended Catholic Central High School in Troy, NY, and received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the College of St. Rose. She then received her Masters Education Certificate from the University of the State of NY for Elementary Education, and went on to achieve her Graduate Masters of Science in Education at the College of St. Rose.

Her teaching career began in the Troy City Schools, where she taught for 2 years before moving to the Niskayuna Central School District where she taught for 38 years, retiring in 1997.

She kept busy after retirement hosting her grandchildren on summer vacations and traveling to New York City to see every Broadway show.  She enjoyed many hobbies over the years in quilting, gardening, weaving, spinning, and especially knitting. She was regularly seen driving around Niskayuna in her beloved blue Volkswagen Beetle.

She is survived by her daughters Jan Gray (Marc) of Niskayuna and Donna Seymour of Saratoga Springs. She is also survived by her three grandchildren Adama Sesay and her partner Ronnie Peters of Miami, Peter Madkin, Jr. of Wilton, NY, and Devin Madkin of Ballston Spa, NY. She is also survived  by her older brother Khalil Karim (Sarah) and their children and grandchildren in Chicago, Il.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering on Thursday, June 5, 2025. Calling hours are from 4-7PM in the Chapel of Simple Choices, Inc. & Riverview Funeral Home, 218 2nd Avenue (corner of 104th Street) Troy, NY 12180.
