I met Gloria when she kindly let my husband (a former student and neighbor), our then 1yo son and I stay at her home for free when we visited my father-in-law in 2016. I remember well how warm it felt to meet her and how much at home I felt immediately. We had our own room, and she let us use her computer and the rest of her house as if we weren't guests (2/3 she'd never met before). I remember being amazed by all the beautiful things she had in and around her house - the blue Beetle, the iconic wall paper in her kitchen, the big garden, the books. The doll house in her basement! She gave me some items to take home: two books (Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, with black characters and the most amazing illustration - we still have and read them, and I will keep and cherish them forever). A tea service with flowers which I adored (she wrapped it carefully for our flight back to Berlin, Germany; I still keep it in the place where I keep the very beautiful and dear things). She also taught me how to make the best cheese sauce; I've been doing it her way ever since I had a taste of it at her place, and it's just the best. It always reminds me of her and of the night we made it together at her place. I made it in her honor tonight. I also fondly remember her stories, which I couldn't get enough of. A memorable life that had a deep impact on many! I've always thought that we'd meet again and that she'd one day open the door to us the same friendly, sharp-minded, active lady she was in 2016. I never thought this wouldn't happen, even though she was over 80 back then already. I've met her in person for only 9 days, but she's left such strong footprints in my life. I can't even begin to imagine what difference she must have made for all those students, their parents, family, friends, neighbors and everyone else who had the pleasure to spend more time with her. Thank you, Gloria, for having been here. All my deepest condolences go out to those who were close to her. She will not be forgotten!

Mrs Seymour was not only kind and intelligent, she was so ahead of her time! In 1982, I was a shy girl straight out of Japan, I was demoted 2 grades at Rosendale Elementary because I couldn’t speak English.
I was painfully insecure in a New World. Mrs Seymour recognized this and made me feel special - making sure that I felt honored for my heritage instead of ashamed.
My sister and I were one of the few “ethnic” kids at Rosendale Elementary School, and Mrs Gloria Jenkins Seymour showered so much kindness on not just me, but my whole family.
She even held a “Japan Day” in our honor, where we dressed up in our kimonos and shared Tea Ceremony.
We felt so accepted, welcomed and loved in our very first years in the United States largely because of Mrs Seymour’s magnanimous gestures. She was acutely aware of how isolated we were and went out of her way to show her love, and use this opportunity as a cultural education for the community.
Thank you Mrs Gloria Seymour, for all the loving kindness you showed us, and the courage and dignity you instilled in me.
You were such a crucial influence in my early years in America , I will never forget you!

My condolences to Gloria's family. I taught with her at Niskayuna for many years and I enjoyed working with her at Rosendale and on many committees over the years. I appreciated her insights and learned from her experiences.

Such a loss to so many. Mrs Seymour was my favorite teacher. She was my mom’s friend, and when I had trouble in math I would walk across back yards to her house at 7 am for extra help—she had a color TV!! And I remember it was on the Today show each morning when I was working on math, and she would sip her coffee and be so kind to me.
When we were building our house on Rosendale and the walls were up the Seymour’s brought us a feast and we set up boards on sawhorses and shared a bucket of Kentucky fried chicken in all that chaos.
She wrote to me when I was in college—encouraging me the whole way and celebrated with me when I graduated. She marked the births of my children and called often. We shared knitting patterns and we would exchange yarn for projects—she taught me difficult stitches and, as always, her gentle guidance helped me make beautiful things and made me believe I could do the hardest of patterns. She will be greatly missed, and I will forever cherish the pictures she sent me of her lovely home, yard, the little house in the back, and of her family. I love you Mrs Seymour. Forever and always❤️.

Mrs Seymour was my favorite teacher of all time. ♥️ In 3rd grade she made me feel seen and smart, and I admired her and her spirit so much. What a wonderful gift to the world! My heart is with her family and friends at this time. Peace be with you.

Mrs. Seymour was an outstanding teacher. She was my 3rd grade teacher in 1983. Mrs. Seymour was the first teacher to bring computers into a classroom and where I first did programming of any kind. Also she taught us about West Africa, which really opened my mind to the world. RIP

Gloria was our neighbor when we lived at 91 Ashtree Lane. She was also our daughter Rachel's marvelous 4th grade teacher. We moved away in 12/84 but maintained contact all these years with "Mrs Seymour". She adored my late husband Lew and took pride in Rachel's accomplishments and took an interest in Rachel's family over all these years. My she rest in peace and may memories of her always be a blessing.

She was passionate about making sure you got your education and I remember her as a fierce and strong person. Thank you Mrs. Seymour for your attention to our upbringing, your generosity and you will be missed. Sending so much love to your family!!
