Obituary of Naomi Elizabeth Strickland
In Loving Memory of Naomi Elizabeth Strickland, born in 1954, Naomi passed away on April 22, 2025 following a brief illness in Albany, New York. Her life was deeply rooted in her unwavering faith, a profound devotion to her family, a lifelong commitment to learning, and a genuine love of people.
After graduating from Wethersfield High School in Connecticut in 1972, she continued her academic journey at Russel Sage College in Troy New York, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976. Her love of learning and deepening faith then led her to Drew University in Madison New Jersey, where she earned a Master of Divinity degree in 1979. Her love of country prompted her brief but honorable service in the United States Army, from which she was honorably discharged in 1982. Her innate drive to learn and grow led her to the Morse School of Business, where she earned a certificate in computer programming with high honors in 1984. She leveraged her computer programming skills in her role with Aetna insurance and often spoke with pride about the programs she helped to develop and the training programs she led across the country.
In 1987, Naomi welcomed her daughter, Sarah. She delighted in being a mom. She loved reading to her daughter as a child, and even into adulthood, was always happy to talk about the books they were both reading and to share recommendations. She also shared her deep faith with Sarah--something which provides immense comfort. In 1993, Naomi relocated to New Hampshire, where her faith and desire to connect with her community led her to become an active member of the Moultonborough United Methodist Church and the Lion's Club. Naomi loved being with children. After earning a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Notre Dame College in Manchester, New Hampshire in 2001, she worked as a mental health counselor, serving children from low-income families. From there, she moved onto a role as a school bus driver for the Interlakes School District. For Naomi, this wasn't just a job; it was an opportunity to connect with young people, greet each child with a warm smile, and ensure their safe passage. In 2009 Naomi warmly welcomed her son-in-law, Clement, into her family. She loved to make sure he had his favorite things with every visit, often going out of her way to make a fresh-baked apple pie and an extra trip to the grocery store for the freshest strawberries.
Her devotion to family shone through the care she provided for her parents until their passing. She was committed to them, driving them to appointments, ensuring her mother got to enjoy her weekly Bingo games at the Lion's Club, and making sure her father got to indulge in his favorite treat of strawberry milkshakes – small acts of love that spoke volumes about her character and commitment. In 2018, Naomi relocated to Niskayuna, New York, to be closer to her daughter and family. She was a devoted grandmother to Holly and Olivia. She cherished taking her granddaughters on day trip adventures, engaging in creative crafting sessions, and filling the kitchen with home-baked goodies. The enduring legacy of Naomi's life is her unwavering faith. Her unwavering belief in a heavenly reunion with her parents is shared by her family and provides a profound sense of peace as we now look forward to a future heavenly reunion with her.
Until that joyous reunion, Naomi will be missed and forever remembered by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Clement, and her beloved granddaughters, Holly and Olivia.
