Obituary of Peter M. Garvilla
Peter “Pete” Martyn Garvilla, 75, of Schenectady, NY died on April 16, 2025.
Peter enjoyed the outdoors and loved to exercise. He had been an avid runner most of his life, and took up biking in recent years. Pete enjoyed taking his grandchildren hiking and fostering in them a love of nature. When he wasn’t on his bike, Pete could be found sitting quietly reading. Pete loved to share his passion for reading; recommending titles and authors. It was common to receive a collection of books of your favorite genre from him.
Though he claimed to dislike cooking, Pete often experimented in the kitchen, creating delicious treats for those he loved. Pete relished a dry martini, a rare steak and a Linzer torte.
Pete is remembered by his partner, Maria Sardella; his daughters Lara Garvilla, Meghan Sawtelle and Emily Garvilla; their mother Lorraine Garvilla; his sons in law Danny Sawtelle and Jason Bentley; and his grandchildren Jahdian, Joseph, Matilda, Miles and Noah.
A simple man of simple pleasures, Pete did not want a formal service. Cremation Arrangements have been entrusted to: Simple Choices, Inc.
